1. What made you interested in water quality and the work of the James River Basin Partnership? After an internship with the City of Springfield’s Water Quality Department, I learned so much about the inner workings of how our community protects our waterways and just wanted to get more involved. JRBP is such a wonderful resource to the Springfield area and I knew that if I ever got the opportunity to be involved in their water quality initiatives I would jump at the chance!
2. What are you most looking forward to in your new role? I’m looking forward to getting out in the community and working with students to educate them on water quality and empower them to connect with their local waterways.
3. What do you like to do outside of work? I am a big foodie so in my free time I enjoy trying new recipes in the kitchen or going to a new restaurant. I also love long walks with friends, reading, yoga, and playing the saxophone.
4. What is your most memorable outdoor experience? My most memorable outdoor experience has to be when I did a 12-day backpacking trip with my family at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. It was my first time backpacking and camping for more than one night at a time. After 100 miles of hiking with a 50 lb pack, it’s needless to say I learned a lot and will forever remember that trip for all the good and not so good moments!
5. Favorite float in the James River watershed? My favorite float in the James River watershed is Kerr to Galena.
6. If you could only choose one for the rest of your life, canoe or kayak? Canoe because I really enjoy floating with friends and with a canoe you always get a buddy!
7. Name one piece of gear (and why) you can't live without it. One piece of gear I couldn’t live without is my Patagonia fanny pack. I bring it everywhere and always have exactly what I need.
8. Favorite gravel bar meal or treat? Peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a kombucha.
9. Best Chinese food in Springfield? The Wok On Scenic has the best veggie fried rice in town!
10. Andy's or Pineapple Whip? You can only choose one! Pwhip of course! My favorite flavor is grape and pineapple swirl.
