10 Questions with Cecilia Kayser

Cecilia Kayser is serving as JRBP’s AmeriCorps member for the next 12-months! She will split her time between JRBP and Missouri Smallflows Organization. Learn more about her with these fun 10 questions!

Cecilia is a recent college graduate from Missouri State with her Master's in Environmental Geology. While she was at Missouri State, she worked for Outdoor Adventures where her love for educating others about the outdoors was sparked. Cecilia loves to rock climb, bike, and run. Essentially anything that is an outdoor activity. She is a very passionate environmental Geologist with a deep love for the natural world. She finds great joy in exploring the wonders of the world, both above and below the surface. One of her great passion lies in sharing knowledge and educating others about the incredible world around us, particularly when it comes to rocks and their significance. 


1. What made you interested in water quality and the work of the James River Basin Partnership? One of my classes as a graduate student was Contaminant Hydrology and it was one of the most interesting classes I have taken. I truly enjoyed mapping contaminants and learning about the path of rainwater and how it percolates into our watershed. Also, I have always been passionate about water and waste management, environmental sustainability, and education. JRBP is the perfect combination of those three. 

2. What are you most looking forward to in your new role? The new people I am going to meet and the connections I am going to make. 

3. What do you like to do outside of work? I like to rock climb, run, bike or just be outside. I also like going to concerts, reading, and crocheting!

4. What is your most memorable outdoor experience? Repealing in Arches National Park. Moab, Utah is one of my favorite places to visit and explore. 

5. Favorite float in the James River watershed? Any part of the James!

6. If you could only choose one for the rest of your life, canoe or kayak? Kayak!

7. Name one piece of gear (and why) you can't live without it. Climbing shoes because you can climb anywhere with just shoes. Plus climbing shoes are so unique and usually just one pair is the perfect fit and style for a person.

8. Favorite gravel bar meal or treat? Beer
